Is A Career In Sales Right For You?

What made you decide that Sales was the right career path for you? As a child, I’m sure that a career in Sales wasn’t what first came to mind when asked the question: what do you want to be when you grow up? Maybe it’s because you enjoy a challenge – after all, what’s more challenging than persuading people to buy into a product or service?

Maybe you’re good at talking to people, at listening to what they have to say.

Or maybe it’s because you’ve watched films such as the recent hit, the Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio or Will Smith in the Pursuit of Happiness and thought…yes, that could be the job for me.

Whatever the reason, have you considered this: Do you have the right skills and traits that will help you succeed in Sales?

Do you want to succeed at everything that you do?

Do you have that drive to succeed? If yes, then Sales could be right for you. Sales is a competitive arena where every salesperson is looking to make more sales to achieve – and even exceed their quota. To do so successfully, you would have to be willing to go that extra mile.

Are you good with people?

The ability to ask the right questions to uncover a potential customer’s needs is essential. Are you listening closely to your customer’s response? – It’s been said that the best salespeople have a tendency to listen more than they speak.

Persistence pays.  

Can you remain positive even when your pitch has been rejected? The ability to dust yourself off and move on after a failed sale is significant trait of those who are successful in their sales career.

Confidence is key.

Being confident is an essential skill to have. Not just in yourself but also about your product or service.  If you let your nerves get the better of you, Sales may not be the right career choice for you.

All of the extras needed.

The ability to motivate yourself and focus on the task at hand are needed to succeed in Sales. You will need to be flexible to attend networking events and to work the hours that will be needed to close the deal.
